Ulee’s Gold-film-1997featured

Just finished watching a film about a troubled family-addiction, cops n’ robbers, etc., but the lead role of Ulee, played by Peter Fonda was exceptional in that he portrayed a Florida Gulf coast beekeeper, whose specialty was Tupelo honey.  Filmed on location in Wewahitchka, there are many authentic scenes of honey houses, extraction and uncapping, bee yards and utility-boom trucks.  The back story tells us that it was actually filmed on the premises of a real honey farm, as well as other Florida locations. The issues of mites, pesticides, dumping of foreign honey in American markets, herbicides and lack of diverse forage are referenced in the film (made in 1997) and are still issues for American beekeepers today.  While the underlying story is fair, I would recommend it for the bee management scenes, which are numerous.  Check it out when you get a chance.
